Meet Nathan and Justin!

They are two busy guy's at this time of the year shearing alpacas from sun up to sun down. Nathan company Shear Perfection Farm has a commitment to helping us small breeders with the task that is fun, fast and can make an alpaca furious! Our fuzzy friends remind me of my brothers when they were young and had to get the buzz cut for summer. They resist the cut- but soon afterwards they are prancing and rolling in the grass enjoying the cool feel to their newly sheared bodies.

We sheared 15 animals this year and will now prepare the alpaca fleece for the mill. The mill will clean and spin this fleece into knitting yarns which will end up in our Alpaca Store and eventually into the hands of those anxoius knitters who just wait all year to get this soft beautiful one of a knid fiber for their knitting projects.

I am not the end user of this alpaca fiber product, but i certainly am proud to see the results of our breeding and caring for such beautiful animals. They are a true gift from the heavens and we here at Chimney Hill Estate's are very blessed to have them as our friends to share this lovely property and enjoy each others company.

See you all soon,

Terry

Chimney Hill Spring Fun!

Thinking about the Spring every day here at the farm. The alpacas are starting to hang outside and hum their tunes of contentment while they bask in the sunshine! They are sooo into Spring! It means sheering time for them as well! Hair cuts for the summer months and breeding time for the ladies <3!

We will be setting up a sheering weekend and post it for our guests who enjoy learning about the Alpaca sheering and fleece process.

So stay tuned for more information!

Meet Chimney Hill 's newest baby Alpaca!

So you think it has been a cold winter! Yes, we would agree.

Meet our newest baby boy alpaca!

Born in the snow on January 30th!

We found him siting in snow neck deep! Quiet as a lamb.

Mom Carin and Brother Diego were standing at the barn door crying trying to get our attention when we were out in the barn feeding the herd.

Eric and I looked outside and saw this cute and tiny new cria just sitting in a pile of snow!

I quickly grabbed the cria, Eric ran and prepare some towels and we began to dry him off and get him warm.

So what will we name this little snowman?

He is very sweet and loving. Mom Carin is doing just great too!

The biggest concern is the freezing cold weather that we have been experiencing.

We have taken extra measures in the barn birthing pen to secure more heat and keep baby and mom comfortable.

I hope you will come soon for a visit to meet him!

Thanksgiving Hayrides, Wreath & Sleighbell Sale

Sleighbells will ring at the Farm on Saturday, November 27 when the Farm holds its annual Thanksgiving program featuring free horsedrawn hayrides, a wreath and sleighbell sale, and a special children's craft program.

Horsedrawn hayrides (or sleighrides!) will be offered on a continuous basis from 11:00am-3:00pm. There is no charge for the rides, but everyone is encouraged to bring a non-perishable food stuff to donate to the Trenton area food bank as a thank you for the wagon ride. At 3:00pm, donors will be eligible to win doorprizes--including bells worn by the Farm's horses.

Sleighbells will be sold throughout the day by The Friends of Howell Farm to benefit the Farm's restoration projects. The bells are made by harnessmaker Mervin Martin, who makes the harnesses and sleighbells worn by the Farm's workhorses. Brass and nickel plated bells will be sold in straps of six, twelve and twenty bells. Reproduction cast bells, bell door ringers and bell ornaments will also be available.

Other holiday items featured at the annual fundraiser include fresh evergreen wreaths and doorhangings; baskets of the Farm's flour, honey and maple syrup; and beautiful handmade items sewn by the Pleasant Valley Stitchers.
